My annual update

Oh man, I'm lazy.

The project of epic proportions mentioned last year is deep, deep, deep into production. I will take a moment to outline the goals.

Like every other artist out there, I've always wanted to tell a story, through comic or animation. I've been working on a story since highschool. When I got into animation in college, the pace of development of that project slowed almost to a halt. When I got work in a studio, that work remained at a very slow pace.

Last winter, I decided to do something about it. In december 2007, I began to pen the outline of the story of the reoccuring characters on my website. Not just any story though.

An animated mini series, 44 minute(1 hour) episode format, running around a total of  8 episodes.

The goal of this ambitious project?

To experience and learn the workflow of a preproduction environment.

Because I had spent 2 years in a studio working animation production and compositing post production, I felt that I lacked the experience and skill in the conceptualization and preproduction aspects of animation.

Ultimately, the end result will hopefully be the scripts (now 13 episodes) full concept character and location designs, and a complete storyboard bible from start to finish of all episodes, including opening and end title sequences.

Story planning and source material building took place from december to april. when the story was more or less planned out from start to finish. I started scripting episode 1 in april.

I have just finished writing episode 6.

The timeline for new artwork to be produced is not currently set, as serious artwork production will not start until I have the entire series at least in 1st draft form, but at the pace it's moving, I hope to have 7-13 finished within the next 6 months.

Currently the drafts are only viewable among a small circle of my colleagues. While I have no plans to take this to a studio as of yet, I do wish to protect it until it is at least into 2nd draft.

Hopefully I'll start to blog some more about my progress, however, there is not much else to view on the site, and visitors are few and far between... outside the few of you who have this site bookmarked in hopes that I will eventually update. :P

Anywhos, I'm not dead, so stay tuned.
